Public Health Dietitian

Festive Dinner

About Me

Being a Public Health Dietitian is something that I am proud of. Something that has become more than just a title to me. I am proud of my profession, and strive to represent dietitians as a respectful, competent and ethical health professional. To the public I am a trusted health professional. Someone that the public can trust to provide confidential, safe and evidence-based nutrition advice, protect their privacy and provide client centered care. To my coworkers I am a competent team member that can bring value, different perspectives and collaboration to create a more holistic approach to a program. This is how I see myself, and how I strive to be seen by others.

My journey as a health professional began when I completed my Undergraduate degree in Applied Human Nutrition at the University of Guelph, and then completed my internship to become a Registered Dietitian at the Southeastern Ontario Dietetic Internship Program. I am a member of the College of Dietitians of Ontario, a regulatory body for dietitians in the province of Ontario. The college has a goal to protect the public by supporting dietitians to be able to practice dietetics in a competent, safe and ethical manner. There are many resources available to me from the college to meet this goal.

I have worked in various fields of nutrition, starting with long term care. I then moved into primary care at a Family Health Team and have now landed in Public Health where I work at the Middlesex London Health Unit on the Community Health Promotion team.  Along with public health nurses and health promoters, we work in collaboration promote health within the secondary schools in London and Middlesex County by working with schools to create supportive environments following the Foundations for a Healthy School.

As a wife, mother and Dietitian I see the importance of food, not only to fuel the body but to fuel the soul. Enjoying delicious, wholesome food together enriches our lives.  I love to cook and see how food brings hearts, minds and souls together.

Take a look around my portfolio, I have included more about myself, my professional experiences and my current work public health professional.

Warm Regards and Cheers to Good Food,

Abby

"Food is not just fuel.  Food is about family, food is about community, food is about identity. And we nourish all those things when we eat well"
